Influences of Human Needs

CL1_B-Struggles for power and status, amongst the elite powerful groups in society, occur using a rhetoric that barely conceals the lack of any real concern for the needs of the general public.

CL2_B-Rule of law can exist without any concern for the needs of the people.

Neither CL3_S-Obligations of officials nor CL3_P-Private interests have to pay direct attention to human needs. All engagement is indirect via CL4 _B-Government solutions or the CL5-Public.

CL5, the social context, has no direct links because CL5_S-Public opinion cannot handle needs without activating either a CL4_B-government solution or stirring members of the public to take practical action for their own benefit (CL5_P). This may activate communalist principles in some. See below how this indirect path can operate.

Human Needs ↔ Government Solutions

The existence of human needs, being the deepest rationale for government, does have a direct effect on its solutions When the influence is benign and positive, the result is Development of the society. Where there is disconnection, and government officials develop solutions that ignore or neglect the needs of the people, society is exposed to Devastation. Haiti is a good example of a country destroyed by its government.

CL7_B ↔ CL6_S: Human Needs ↔ Cultural Identity. Human needs and ways to meet them in social life become embedded over time in the culture. There is a mutual influence, because the cultural identity shapes perceptions of need, and must value communalist principles for its own survival. Where linkage is strong, we have Cohesion; where it is a weak linkage, Dislocation develops.

CL7_B ↔ CL6_P: Human Needs ↔ Personal Principles. There is a necessary Identification so that perception of human needs activates a person's ethical principles and the reverse occurs: principles can force awareness of unmet needs). From there, some influence on personal CL5_P-commitments or a confrontation with proposed CL4_B-government solutions are possible. When there is no connection between these two Centres, a callousness or cynicism develops and a potentially dangerous state of Alienation exists.
